Research Interests
- During my undergraduate years, I was quite interested in artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic theory and evolutionary computation. My dream is to simulate the human intelligence in a well-defined manner. At that time, Shadow of the Mind is my favorite book.
- Graduate years seem to be a turning point. I was astonished by the spreading internet techonology that makes poeple faraway easy to commnunicate. My research work mainly deals with the flow control and management of high speed networks. I studied self-similar traffic modelling and proposed multifractal approach from another end of spectrum. I did a lot of simulation and performance analysis to improve the quality of service in ATM environment. Then I began to realize the pricing issue for future network. My original idea toward decentralized pricing ( e.g. auction ) is under game theoretic framework. Almost a whole year, I had to compete with CTR group, Columbia Univ. toward a similar goal especially on a practical auction model for network resource sharing. My dream shallowed when the NSF of China stopped funding for this research direction.
- Now, I come to UCONN to fulfill another dream: grasp the elite of target tracking and air traffic control. Life is not easy since I have to review those courses on probability, stochastic process, control and communication theory. The optimization course always costs my precious leasure time. The pace of my research aims at the eternal goal: understand the relationship between science and human mind, at least approach this dream.
I appreciate the following Chinese saying appeared on the course book
By making things absolutely clear, people will become confused.
